GENERAL INTRODUCTION (DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY)
History: The history of Faculty associated with the history of the establishment of the Faculty of Agronomy and Vietnam National University of Agriculture with the following important milestones:
+ In 1956-1977: Plant Pathology Group
+ In 1977: Department of Plant Pathology
+ In 1996: Department of Plant Pathology and Agronomy
Functions: The department has two main tasks which are training and research.
+ Training: The Department is responsible for teaching courses related to Plant Pathology and Agricultural Medicine for students, graduated students, PhD students in Plant Protection and other majors of the University, mainly of the Faculty of Agriculture.
+ About the research: The staff of the Department research about the causes of diseases, the rules of development, common and important management diseases on the key crops of Vietnam. The Department has cooperated with universities from many countries in the world such as Japan, Germany, Australia and France.
Organization: At present, the Department consists of 8 teaching staff assigned to two groups:
+ Diseases Group: Responsible for teaching subjects related to Plant Pathology.
+ Agriculture Group: Responsible for teaching subjects related to the use and development of pest management products, focusing on chemical methods.

The department manages 01 common laboratory, 04 laboratories equipped with basic tools used for research on plant pathology, 02 practice rooms for practice.

Plant Pathology and Agricultural Medicine have many fields of study. Based on the capacity of staff, traditions and practical needs, the Department now focuses on two main research areas:
- Diagnosis of plant diseases, even at the molecular level.
- Preventing biotic diseases of key crops in Vietnam.
- Training (over the last 5 years)

- Scientific research
+ The Department has implemented 04 State-level projects, 15 ministry level projects and 3 international cooperation projects.
The department consistently won the title of Outstanding developed Department.
